Restart the device

Some software issues can be resolved by rebooting the machine. Also, make sure there are no pending Windows updates. If there are pending updates, you should see an icon like the following on the taskbar.

  • To properly restart, click the Windows icon on the taskbar.
  • Next, Click the Power button  and select Restart. (Note: If your device has pending updates, it may show as Update and Restart.)

Resetting Drivers

If a certain component is still not working correctly after restarting, you can reset its drivers in Device Manager.

  1. In the Cortana/Windows search bar, type “Device Manager”, and you should see the following. Hit Enter or click Open.

  2. When the Device Manager opens, look for Cameras and double-click it (or click the right arrow beside it) to expand the list. (NOTE: If you do not see Cameras listed, you may have a hardware issue and will need to drop off your laptop.)

  3. Right-click Integrated Camera and select Uninstall device. (Note: You may see two cameras listed, if equipped.)

  4. In the subsequent pop-up, select the checkbox to “Delete the driver software for this device” and click Uninstall button.

  5. Go back to the Device Manager and select Action, then Scan for hardware changes.

  6. Finally, to test your camera’s functionality, open the Camera app and record a video.
